On Location Portraits
Houston and Katy have many choices to offer for outdoor scenic portraits. Some popular locations include the Mecom-Rockwell Colonnade and Fountain, Williams Tower Waterfall in the Galleria, and many beautiful parks throughout the area including Mary Jo Peckham park.
A special photographic effect is achieved right after the sun rises in the early morning and right before the sun sets. This is known as the “golden hour” or “magic hour” and the quality of light has a warmer, golden diffused hue.
I try to avoid the mid-day sun whenever possible due to harsh shadows. The ideal time for outdoor portraits is before 10:30 am and after 4:00 pm, however outdoor portraits are possible any time of day using various methods to control the light. Overcast skies also create good outdoor lighting. The utmost care will be given to ensure quality results regardless of the time of day.
